Galtür. Kops Reservoir
The Kops Dam was built in the 1960s, in the mountain pass Zeinisjoch. Kops is used for the needs of the Vorarlberger Illwerke AG hydropower plant. The site of this hydropower station, Kops II, has a turbine capacity of 525 MW. The capacity of Kops Reservoir is over 40 million cubic meters of water, equivalent to 127 million kilowatt-hours.
The Austrians could not miss such a chance and made a full-fledged resort from the technical facility. On the southern coast of Kops, ski lifts were built, and, in the north, there are several hotels and restaurants, which can be reached by car. In the summer, cycling routes are popular here. Kops is located at an altitude of 1,809 meters above sea level, with the surrounding mountain peaks being about one kilometer higher.
One of the most popular hotels near the dam is the mountain hut, Zeinisjochhaus. The first houses in this place were built in the 15th century, and Zeinisjochhaus has been opened to visitors since 1632. Despite the fact that there is a popular ski resort nearby, the hut works only in warm weather, from June to October.
Near the Zeinisjochhaus is a small camping site for caravans. Houses on wheels can connect to electricity in a special parking lot (which is not surprising because the camping site is near the reservoir of the hydroelectric power station), as well as use all the additional services for the maintenance of the motorhomes.
