Podersdorf am See. Lake Neusiedler See
The largest saline lake in Austria is Neusiedler See (area of 315 square kilometers; the third part of the lake enters the territory of Hungary). It is only 40 km from Vienna; that’s why this is a favorite vacation spot of metropolitan residents. It is even called the Vienna Sea.
In summer, people come here to swim, walk, ride a horse, bike, kayak or canoe, and simply lie in the sun by the cool water. In winter, the lake freezes quickly (because the average depth of Neusiedler See is only 1 m, with a maximum depth of 1.8 m) and brings joy to people as a spacious skating rink.
It is also worth mentioning that authorities and entrepreneurs have made great efforts to make holidays comfortable and interesting; they have organized hotels, wineries, restaurants, car parks and rentals of necessary equipment.
