Schwarzenbach. Panorama of the Commune

The Austrian village of Schwarzenbach is located on the border with Hungary. It has a population of only 1000 people. The village is located near the highway L148 between the towns of Hochwolkersdorf and Weppersdorf. For tourists, this town is interesting, primarily, for its ancient castle or, rather, its ruins in the northwest of Schwarzenbach.

The ruins of the castle on the hilltop are covered with dense thickets now. The castle was built at the turn of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries and changed owners several times until, in 1680, the Esterházy family settled there. In the nineteenth century, the castle came into desolation, since it had ceased to be the official residence of the Esterházy family.

In the village itself, there are also historical architectural monuments, such as the town hall, the square, the medieval church of St. Bartholomew, the old cemetery, as well as parks, museums and even a small theater.

From within, you can see not only the hills of the surrounding area, but also Schwarzenbach. There is a viewing platform in the 30 meter museum tower.
