Wernberg. View of the Alps from Duel Area
We are on the outskirts of a small Austrian municipality, Wernberg, located near the border with Slovenia. The border between the two states is on the alpine mountains. In the background, we can see Mount Kepa, which refers to the Karavanke mountain range in the Southern Limestone Alps.
The highest point of Mount Kepa is around 2145 meters above sea level, which puts it in third place in the entire Karavanke. On the slopes of the mountain, the so-called Alpine Club huts are located, from which hiking trails to the top of Kepa are organized.
We can also see another natural wonder of this region of Austria, the river Drau. Its bank is just 600 meters away from the camera. In the foreground, we can see the railroad laid between the major cities of Villach and Klagenfurt.
About 200 people live in the area of Duel and not more than six thousand around Wernberg. With such a density of the population, life in this quiet corner of Austria proceeds very steadily. Due to the fact that these places were inhabited, even in Roman times, Wernberg has interesting archaeological sites and medieval castles, churches and other places of interest.
