Vodnjan. People's Square
We are going to the center of the Croatian Vodnjan. We are located in the central square of the town. Until 1808, there had been a castle of the 5th century. On the screen, we can see buildings constructed in the neo-Gothic style. On the opposite side of the square is the municipality, which appeared here in 1910. During the construction of the municipality’s building, the Venetian style was added to the standard neo-Gothic.
As in many European squares, various festivals are held here. Near the square, tourists can visit several other attractions, such as the churches of St. Blasius and St. Catherine, Roman Catholic Diocese of Poreč-Pula, an eco-museum, as well as the famous museum of mummies.
Many houses on the square have an interesting history. Excursions are held in the houses of Benussi and Bembo, as well as in the Bradamante Palace. It is interesting that in the beginning of the 19th century the square appeared in the center of Vodnjan, thanks to the private donations of the Dalla Zonca family.
Residents of the town and tourists, who leave the seaside resorts of Croatia in order to visit small towns like Vodnjan during major holidays, can spend the whole day at People’s Square because there are fairs and tables with chairs for feasts.
