Helsinki. Parking Place at the Western Port

This huge parking space serves the busy passenger terminal of the Western Port of Helsinki with its numerous ferries and cruise liners. Local old railway line was closed in 2009.

The new port of Vuosaari, opened in 2008, helped to reduce the container traffic in the older ports of the city, including the Western Port.

Total annual passenger traffic of the port comprises about 5 million persons, this in addition to over 1 million carried vehicles.

Today the Western Port is used mainly by passenger ships from Helsinki to Tallinn and from Helsinki to Saint Petersburg.
