Joensuu. Market Square

Joensuu is a city that is definitely worth visiting while traveling in Finland! Market Square looks a little unusual, more precisely, it is not very attractive from the point of view of any tourist. The city from this perspective looks too modern and faceless, uninteresting. But this is nothing more than a superficial impression, all the main treasures are hidden from the eyes of the observer.

It has a great number of churches, including Orthodox churches, each of which, thanks to the talent of architects and builders, deserves to be seen. The town hall, located on the embankment, has an appearance that is quite original and Central Hospital looks like a castle towering on the hill. Then, of course, there is a handicraft quarter where you can see works of local craftsmen and buy souvenirs.

By the way, the main events of the story Borrowing Matches (Tulitikkuja lainaamassa), by the Finnish writer Maiju Lassila, take place in Joensuu, which is also called Joki.
