Cannes. Cote d'Azur
The French Riviera has served as a place of inspiration over hundreds of years. Famous painters, for example, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Сezanne, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso and Marc Shagall have appreciated this beautiful Mediterranean coastline at its true value and over many years preferred to work only here. Today, very few people will remember that the famous name Cote d’Azur was once given to this area by Stephen Liegeard in his book “La Côte d’azur”, written at the end of the 19th century.
Cannes is a luxurious sea resort located on the French Riviera. This city has become a synonym to the Cannes Film Festival and expensive way of life. The Boulevard de la Croisette is worldwide famous thanks to the Palace of Festivals and Congress Hall and the Star Alley.
The Lerins Islands are located just off the shore of Cannes and are one of the major attractions in the area after the film festival. The Island Sainte-Marguerite is famous for its fortress Fort Royal. The legend says that the so-called Man in the Iron Mask was held here. The second one, Island of Saint-Honorat, attracts tourists with its beautiful old church and a 15th century monastery.
