Budapest. View of the Royal Palace and Széchenyi Bridge

On the left we can see Buda Castle, the residence of Hungarian kings. The first King’s residence was built on this place in the middle of the XIII century and the oldest part of the castle, which has survived to this day, is dated XIV century.

During its long history, Buda was captured many times, destroyed, and rebuilt to once more house powerful rulers. The castle’s last serious test of strength was at the end of the Second World War. The palace was rebuilt after the fighting only in 1966, and the interior of Buda was restored 15 years later.

On the right we can see the Szechenyi Chain Bridge, named after the great Hungarian politician István Széchenyi. It was built in 1849 and at that time became the only road from Buda to Pest across the Danube.
