Cornedo all'Isarco. View of the Village of San Valentino in Campo
This camera is installed in the Astronomical Observatory Max Valier, named after the Austrian pioneer of rocketry. Anyone can attend this scientific institution, with an appointment. During an hour and a half, you will listen to a brief introduction to astronomy, as well as look through the giant telescopes at the starry sky over Italy. If you are interested in observing the celestial bodies, you can join a local amateur astronomy club.
Despite its location, the camera is installed to acquaint a viewer with the village on the slopes of the Alps, San Valentino in Campo. The second name of this mountainous community, built at an altitude of 1100 meters above sea level, is Hammer. One trip to these areas of Province of Bolzano can be a real adventure because there is a serpentine road with sharp turns and stunning scenery.
Above the steep drop in the westernmost point of the village of Hammer, you can see the high tower of the parish church of St. Valentine. This is the main architectural landmark and a real pride of the small mountain village. The 42-meter high bell tower appeared here in the sixteenth century but, of course, since then it has been repeatedly restored and rebuilt.
San Valentino in Campo is perfect for those tourists who are going to visit the local observatory, as well as relax in the Italian mountains.
