Shizuoka. Suruga Bay

We are looking at the bay of the main Japanese island of Honshu, on the Pacific coast, from one of the viewing platforms located on the slope of Satsuki Mountain, in the Shizuoka suburb. Suruga Bay is protected from strong winds by the Izu Peninsula, which is why many settlements are built on its banks.

Suruga has a very contrasting relief. Next to the bay is the highest point of Japan, Mount Fuji (3,766 meters above sea level), yet the maximum depth of the bay is about 2.5 kilometers.

The main objects on the screen are high-speed highways. One of them is Tōmei Road (on the right), the national highway of the island, which connects the coast of Suruga Bay with Tokyo. Another road, Fuji-Yui Bypass, also runs along the coast, parallel to Tōmei Highway. Next to these two roads is the Tokaido railway, the length of which is almost 600 kilometers.

In the center of the screen, we can see a recreation area for motorists who can stop here to regain their strength, as well as enjoy a magnificent view of the famous Mount Fuji.
