Let’s make a trip to Minato Ward, south of Tokyo. The camera is installed in the Roppongi District and is directed toward the famous television tower. The district is famous for its huge business centers, as well as its noisy nightlife. It is interesting that tourists and locals occupy it at different times of the day. The Japanese come here to work in the morning and, in the evening, the district is filled with guests of Tokyo. Roppongi has many diplomatic embassies, including the US Embassy.
There are several opinions as to the origin of the name, which is translated as “six trees.” The quarter appeared on the map in the middle of the 17th century. It is interesting that night clubs began to appear in Rappongi more than 100 years ago, when the third guard of the Imperial Army of Japan was transferred to the quarter.
In 1923, during the Great Earthquake, Kanto Rappongi, like many neighboring districts, was completely destroyed by nature. After the reconstruction of the affected areas of Tokyo, the Second World War began, and Rappongi had to be rebuilt again.
The heyday of the district came in the 1960s, when a huge number of nightclubs appeared here, but by the end of the 1990s, many of these clubs were closed, due to the 1989 market collapse.
Now, Rappongi again attracts thousands of tourists and local residents with bright lights of night clubs. Businesses have also moved to this convenient district, like the Pokémon Company, which is located in the 238-meter skyscraper, Roppongi Hills Mori Tower.
