This webcam is from the Hotel Radisson Blu Daugava, located on the Daugava River in the Old City district of Riga. On the opposite bank of the river, we can see the Embankment of 11th November, which is one of the most famous streets of the city. Here stands the Riga Castle, which was declared the residence of the Latvian government in 1938 and today serves as the official residence of the President, as well as home to several museums.
Name of the Embankment of 11th November reminds about The Latvian War of Independence, which lasted from 1918 to 1920. Unfortunately, the major part of the historical buildings in this district were demolished during the German retreat in 1944.
Besides the beautiful Riga Castle and the Daugava River, we can also observe Riga Technical University, which is the oldest technical university in the Baltics, and the Saint Peter’s Church, which is a symbol of Riga and one of its oldest architectural monuments.
