Groningen. Oostersluis Gateway

As you maybe know, water is the Netherlands’ main curse and blessing.

On one hand, this country lies below the sea level and the risk of flood is very high on all of its territory. On the other hand, a lion share of the country’s economy is based on use of canals and water.

This gateway is located in the Oosterpark borough of the city of Groningen. Today it represents an essential part of the country’s canal system and serves as a transition point for the ships heading from north to Amsterdam.

Among other places of interest can be mentioned beautiful main building of the University of Groningen, the Groninger Museum, the Martini Tower (the bell tower of the Martini Church from the 15th century) and the Aa Church.
