Barzio. Panorama from Mount Orscellera
On your screen is the piste of Piani di Bobbio ski resort. We are at the top of Orscellera. In the 2014-2015season, a new cableway station, which replaced one of the oldest chair lifts in all the Alps, was opened on this summit. New Orscellera serves two routes, one of which is black, meaning increased complexity.
Piani di Bobbio began to gain popularity with fans of mountain skiing back in the 1950s. Then, the tourist infrastructure, in small settlements at the foot of the mountain, developed rapidly. The resort itself belongs to the community of Barzio. There are plans for the construction of additional cableways, which will include laying new slopes for the resort.
The panoramic camera on the top of the mountain shows us not only skiers and snowboarders, but also many villages built in the mountain valley. Until the beginning of the 20th century, no more than 500 people lived in each of these communities. Now, in Barzio alone, the population has exceeded 1,000 inhabitants.
