Fujisawa. Observation Tower Enoshima Sea Candle

We are heading to the central part of Japan. From the waterfront of Fujisawa City, we are looking towards the island of Enoshima. This small island in Sagami Bay (the mouth of the Katase River) is of volcanic origin. Its area is 0.38 square kilometers, and the highest point is 60 meters above sea level.

The main attraction of Enoshima is the sanctuary of the Shinto Goddess, Benzaiten. But this assertion may be challenged by tourists who come to the island to climb the high viewing tower, Enoshima Sea Candle, which you can see in the center of the screen.

The 60-meter tower appeared on the island in 2003, on the site of an old lighthouse built in 1951. The opening of the tower was timed to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Enoden Line of the Japan Railway. Despite the fact that there is an elevator in the tower, tourists prefer a spiral staircase, which leads to the viewing platform, because from it they can look at the city of Fujisawa and the island of Enoshima through the glass walls.

The entrance fee to Enoshima Sea Candle is ¥ 500 ($4.50).
