On your screen, you can see Sava, a station square, located in front of the main station of Belgrade. Hence, the name of the station, Belgrade-Main. The station was built in the mid-eighties of the 19th century, according to the plan of the architect Dragutin Milutinovic. The monumental building was constructed in the style of big European countries.
Prior to the construction of the station, the construction of the first Serbian railway, which connected the capital with the city of Niš, had been completed. The place you see on the screen used to be called the Gypsy puddle, and later the Venetian puddle.
The main entrance of the station, located on the right side of the block, is considered one of the main achievements in Serbian architecture of the late 19th century. It has several expressive elements, including the tympanum, the inner semi-circular part of the pediment. The six platforms of the station serve twelve ways.
In front of the station, there are public transport stops, including tram routes. In 2012, a monument to the victims of the war and defenders of the homeland was erected on Sava Square.
