Venice. The Rialto Bridge and the Grand Canal
This webcam is located in Venice, one of the most beautiful and romantic cities of the world. Often called “the city of canals”, it lies on 118 small islands all connected via charming canals and 400 bridges. The Grand Canal serves as the main waterway. Hundreds of gondolas and water trams with spellbound tourists sail back and forth, losing their cameras in water and breaking the usual city picture.
Our webcam captures The Rialto Bridge, which is one of the four bridges of the Grand Canal. Being the oldest pedestrian bridge on the canal, it bears the name of the local food market. The modern Rialto Bridge replaced the older one, which in its time replaced another one from the 12-th century. If you take a closer look, you can see the small doors of the tiny shops. This is where and how the freshest and newest goods from the ships, which had just arrived to Venice, were sold from the very 16-th century.
