The university was founded in the late XIX century. Over the years, it gained popularity due to its training programs, successful alumni and excellent location on the banks of the Susquehanna River.

More than 5,000 students from across the country study there, and every summer, nearly 1,000 successful applicants become part of the Lock Haven University.
