Krakow. Wawel Castle

Krakow is an old and very beautiful Polish city, rich in attractions. It could be called an open-air museum.

This webcam is directed toward the famous architectural and historical complex of Wawel, located on the bank of the Vistula, on a natural rocky hill. The complex includes the Wawel Castle, formerly the residence of Polish kings, and the Wawel Cathedral.

It is interesting that the castle is built on the site of the ancient settlement of the tribe of Vishlan. Excavations have shown that the fortifications, where the modern castle sits, began to appear in the 11th century.

It’s hard to tell exactly to what time the construction you see on the screen belongs. The fact is that the castle was repeatedly destroyed. It was burned to the ground, robbed and rebuilt. The last major reconstruction, after a long period of decline, began in 1905, when the whole complex was bought from Austria. Restoration work continues to this day.
