Medina. The Al-Masjid an-Nabawī Mosque

This webcam is located in Medina and captures the Al-Masjid an-Nabawī Mosque, also called the Prophet’s Mosque. The mosque was built by the Islamic prophet Muhammad and is considered to be the second holy site in Islamic world, after al-Masjid al-Haram in Mecca. Prophet Muhammad spent his last 10 years in a house that later became a part of the mosque. Today we can see how greatly the mosque was expanded (and even decorated with gold and marble).

Ten beautiful 104-metres high minarets help to hold the sky above the tomb of the prophet. Millions of people come to this place to pray under the green dome of the magnificent mosque.

The last time the area of the mosque was increased was in 2013. Huge square parasols are placed around the open spaces of the inner court of the mosque to provide praying people shelter from burning sun and rain. Special fans disperse water when temperature becomes too high.

Well, for many of us this webcam is the only way we can steal a glance at the life inside the beautiful Al-Masjid an-Nabawī Mosque.
