Bettmeralp. Aletsch Glacier

This camera gives the impression that we are somewhere far away from civilization. But, in fact, the camera is installed near the top station of the Bettmergrat ski lift. The trails of Bettmeralp ski resorts are located just a couple dozen meters from the cliff you can see on the screen.

But we are not interested in tourists on snowboards and skis now because we are looking at the gigantic glacier, Alech, which is the biggest glacier in the Alps. Its total length is 24 kilometers. Thanks to the landscape, the glacier looks like a neatly laid road from the top of Mönch to the valley of the Rhone.

The first research station of the glacier appeared in 1937, on the top of Jungfraujoch. A half-kilometer ice-cold stream of Aletsch moves towards the Rhone Valley at a speed of 180 meters per year.

Closer to the top of the glacier is a mountain hut, Konkordiahütte. The climbers stop there on the way to the top of the glacier. The cost is 66 Swiss francs (about 60 euros) per night. This price includes half board.
