Brig. Castle Stockalper

Castle Stokalper was built in the small village of Brig, but its dimensions are huge. Even more incredible is the fact that the castle was built in the middle of the seventeenth century, at that time it was the largest private object in all of Switzerland. Now, it belongs to the objects of cultural heritage of national importance in Switzerland.

In the sixteenth century, there was only the house of Peter Stockalper, which did not expand for many years. Everything changed with the advent of the huge empire of Kaspar Stockalper, who built the castle. Construction continued for 20 years. Regretfully, the owner could not fully enjoy his creation, since in 1679, he was expelled from Brig by local communities.

In 1948, the palace was handed over to the city, and the city council moved to Shtokalper Castle in 1960. Now, the castle is open to visitors, which now contains a city museum and exhibitions and concerts are held there.

The high towers of the castle that you can see on the screen are named after the three biblical Magi, Caspar, Melchior und Balthasar.
