Burlington. View of the City and Lake Champlain

Two cameras, showing the beautiful panorama of Lake Champlain, are located in a building of the University of Vermont. This educational institution is the largest and oldest in the entire state of Vermont.

Throughout its over two hundred year history, the university has boasted such alumni as John Dewey (American philosopher), Tim Thomas (hockey goalkeeper), Annie Proulx (writer) and other prominent US figures.

The lake, which you can see outside the city buildings, is located on the border of the United States and Canada. It got its name, Champlain, after the French traveler who visited the lake in 1609. At Champlain, there are many islands that form the county of Grand Isle. Mostly farmers and fishermen live on these islands.
