Chautauqua. Lake View

The name of the lake, as well as of the county and the city in which it is located, is taken from an extinct Erie language. The meaning of the word Chautauqua is unknown, so we can only guess as to what or whom many objects in this county are devoted.

The lake is a popular recreation area – people go boating, fishing and just relax on the beautiful body of water, stretching 27 kilometers in length. You can see the opposite shore from almost any point of the coast, because the width of Chautauqua is just 3 kilometers.

Only one bridge crosses the lake: Veterans Memorial Bridge, which connects the town of Stow with Bemus Point.

Most tourists stop is in Chautauqua because it has everything you need for a good holiday — restaurants and cafes with live music, as well as boat stations and hotels to suit all tastes.
