New York City. The Empire State Building and Manhattan
This webcam is located in Manhattan, the most famous of the five boroughs of New York City. It is easy to find your bearings here, if you know how the streets and avenues once were set up. Twelve avenues run north and south parallel to the shore of the Hudson River (numeration from east side to the west side). The streets in Manhattan run from east to west and cross the avenues (numeration from south to north).
Fifth Avenue is the central street of Manhattan, and serves as a border between Manhattan’s East Side and Manhattan’s West Side. The most recognizable landmarks of Manhattan and its major places of interest are all situated here. Among them are the Empire State Building, the Rockefeller Center, the Gallery of New York, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of New York, the New York Public Library and Central Park. The upper part of the street, so called Millionaire’s Row, is a parade of famous fashion industry names like Armani, Emanuel Ungaro, Versace, Dior, Gucci, Chanel and Prada.
On the cross runs Broadway, the heart of the American theatre industry. Take a walk down this road and you will come to the noisy Times Square, located at the junction of Broadway and Seventh Avenue.
