New York City. Lower Manhattan

“Concrete jungle” is the first association, which occurs at the sight of rows of New York skyscrapers. From the Brooklyn Heights area, we are looking at Manhattan Island, at its southern part, the Lower Manhattan area. It is considered the commercial and governmental center of New York.

The number of popular tourist attractions in Lower Manhattan is huge; they include Wall Street, City Hall, Financial District, Ground Zero, Little Italy, Chinatown. These and other buildings and neighborhoods are known to every resident and guest of New York.

The history of Lower Manhattan began with a small settlement of the Dutch, who built a fortress here to protect New Holland. Today, much of Lower Manhattan lives in Battery Park City, built in the 1980s.

Unfortunately, the unpleasant pages of the history of the city are associated with Lower Manhattan. Of course, the most terrible event that occurred here is the terrorist attack of 09/11/2001, when twin towers collapsed in the area. We can see the 541-meter World Trade Center 1, also known as the Freedom Tower, which was built after the destruction of the World Trade Center.
