Watertown. Monument in Honor of the 10th Mountain Division

In the summer of 2016 in Watertown suburbs, a monument dedicated to the legendary 10th Mountain Division, based in Fort Drum, was installed. The division participated in worldwide operations in Afghanistan, Somalia, Haiti, Kosovo, Iraq and many other hot spots.

In the days of the Second World War, this division fought against the fascist army in the mountains of Italy. In 2018, the 10th Mountain Division will celebrate 100 years since its founding. Now this US Army military unit is mainly involved in anti-terrorist operations both at home and in other parts of the world.

The monument is installed in Thompson Park, where there are also sports facilities, children’s camps, a golf club and a local zoo.The area near the monument is always crowded, because those who come to relax in the park usually try to visit this local attraction.
