Gramais. Community Panorama
Gramais and its eponymous ski resort are located in the western part of the country. This is the smallest settlement in Austria. There are only 50 permanent residents. The community consists of two districts — the village itself and the Weiler Riefen Farm. Gramais is from the Latin word “graminosa”, which means “grassy”. The houses in the village are buried in green trees.
In the 1930s, more than 100 people lived here. All of them were engaged in agriculture. Despite it’s small size, Gramais has a good road from Hezelger.
In addition to the ski slope in Gramais, there are many cross-country skiing trails, as well as hiking trails for snowshoeing. In the summer, a lot of the Alps tours go there.
Right behind the commune, we can see the valley of the Rosskarbach River. At its very end, several mountain peaks rise above the district. We can see the peak of Sudliche Torspitze, with an altitude 2,622 meters above sea level.
