Ischgl. Community Panorama

Austria is famous for its modern ski resorts in the Alpine mountains. A lot of tourists come to communities such as Ischgl. We can see big hotels and cableways over the ski slopes.

Most of the trails are laid along the slopes of Flimspitz and Bürkelkopf. The same mountains are in the neighboring Swiss resorts. There is a single ski pass for all the ski lifts in this ski area on the border between the two states.

Back to the foot of Flimspitz. Ischgl means island in the Romansh language. For many centuries, Ischgl had been on major trade routes, so the economy of the community was rapidly developing. But in the 17th century, Ischgl declined and only by the middle of the 20th century did it became a major ski resort.

The resort hosts the music festival, Top of the Mountain Concert, which is held there annually. On April 30, 2016, the concert of the Muse group gathered more than 14,000 spectators, at an altitude of 2,300 meters above sea level.
