Krimml. Krimml Falls (Krimmler Wasserfälle)

Few communities in Austria have such vast natural beauty as Krimml. There are stunning Alpine landscapes and mountains, ideal for skiing, mountain valleys with rivers flowing across them, and most importantly, Krimml has its own waterfall which can be seen from anywhere in the community.

The camera in the western part of the village is directed toward the cascading Krimml waterfall. The waterfall is formed by the river, Krimmler Ache, with the total height of all its rapids measuring 385 meters. It is interesting that, depending on the season, the water flow in the waterfall varies from 0.356 to 57.2 cubic meters per second. Also, the pressure of the waterfall depends on the time of the day because it is formed by melting glaciers, which means that in the sunny weather there is more water in the Krimmler Ache river. This increased melting arrives at the waterfall closer to midnight.

The waterfall belongs to the territory of High Tauern National Park. At the turn of the 19th – 20th centuries, a decision was made to use the waterfall as a hydroelectric power station, but because of the instability of the flow, this idea was quickly abandoned. Tourism played a significant role in the final decision to cancel the construction of the power plant, as it was actively developing in those years.

Today, Krimml Falls is one of the main natural attractions of Austria, which is visited annually by about 400,000 tourists from all over the world.
