Obergurgl. Funicular station 2,410 m

Obergurgl is not just a resort Alpine village, one of many; it’s a real attraction. Auguste Piccard made it famous due to his historic flight in a balloon, when he came up to the stratosphere (which is why the flight is historic), and made an emergency landing on the glacier, nearest to the village.

In addition, there is the highest church in Austria, which is almost 300 years old. It might not interest you, but you might like to know more about mountain skiing. The resort is part of the Gurgl-Hochgurgl zone. They say that families with children and not very experienced skiers, as well as people who prefer the privacy of quiet resorts to noisy and crowded fashionable ones, feel most comfortable here.

There are 110 kilometers of skiing trails: 35 kilometers are for beginners, 55 kilometers are of an average complexity, and the complex trails make up only 20 kilometers.
