We can see a popular tourist destination in the Alpine mountains of Austria. This is the municipality of Obervellach. The population is only a couple of thousand people, but if we consider the number of tourists who come here throughout the year, the village can be compared to a small town.

The history of the settlement starts from the end of the first millennium. In medieval times, valuable metals were mined there and Obervellach was well developed. Now this village is famous for its spa hotels.

Obervellach is officially recognized as a sanatorium-resort in Austria. This honorary title is given only after a thorough study of the ecological area. Austrian resorts receive this status for ten years and should periodically confirm it. There are about thirty resorts in the country.
