Sölden. Giggijoch Station
The panoramic camera at Giggijoch Station displays the rich infrastructure of the ski resort of Sölden, and you can also enjoy the scenery of the Alpine mountains and the valley of Ötztal. The first version of the Giggijochbahn cableway was built in 1977 and served more than 20 years.
In 1998, roomy 8-seater cabins replaced 4-seater ones, and they worked for 16 years, after which they were replaced with the most modern version of Giggijochbahn. Today, 10-seater cabins cover a 2.5-kilometer distance in 9 minutes. A total of 133 cabins move along the ropes, and the passenger traffic can reach 4,500 people per hour.
All these transformations in the resort are associated with a growing tourist flow. We are looking at an intermediate station on the way to the main Sölden trails. Closer to the tops of the mountains, the obsolete rope and chair lifts have also been replaced by modern cable cars.
From Giggijoch Station, ski runs and the snowpark area for extreme sports begin, and a ski school and restaurant are also built here. A little further down the hill is the resort area of Hochsölden, with hotels and guest houses available.
