Santiago. Panorama of the City from the Hill of San Cristobal

The capital of Chile is considered one of the most beautiful in the world. It is located between the peaks of Cordillera de la Costa and the Andes, some of which are snow covered throughout the year. In the center of the city, there are several hills that now serve as viewing platforms.

One of them is the hill of San Cristobal, on which this webcam is installed. From a height of 300 meters, the main sights of Santiago, its residential areas, the complex web of streets, and high-rise buildings of the city are perfectly visible. At the very top of San Cristobal, there are also significant objects, such as the statue of the Virgin Mary and the sanctuary of the Immaculate Conception.

The hill of San Cristobal was actively used at the beginning of the 19th century. First, an observatory was built here and then a cable car to the top. The funicular had been operating from 1980 to 2009 and then, was under reconstruction for almost 10 years.

In addition to the funicular station, the National Zoo of Santiago and a large children’s playground are at the foot of the hill.
