Pula. The Pula Arena

This webcam is located in the beautiful city of Pula, Croatia, and captures one of its most important monuments, the Pula Arena. It was constructed in the first century AD and is one of the largest surviving Roman arenas in the world. It was reconstructed many times (under the reign of Augustus, Claudius and Titus) and turned into what it is today from a small timber amphitheater.

The Pula amphitheater was used for combats of gladiators, slaves and wild animals. After the 5-th century, when the death-combats were prohibited, the plunder of the ancient monument started.

After the restoration which took place in the early 19-th century the Pula Arena is used as museum and a popular place for concerts, festivals and different shows.
