Punat. Panorama of the Resort from the Water Tower
The resort of Punat, on the island of Krk, is located on the shores of the eponymous bay. If you like a calm sea, then Punat can be a great option for relaxation. In the bay, there is a small round island of Košljun, which is home to only a few Franciscan monks. You can sail to the island on a rented boat or just swim the distance, which is only 190 meters from the Punat Embankment to Košljun.
The island has a modern equipped marina. Every guest should visit Punat to see the Franciscan monastery of the Annunciation of Mary, founded in the 11th century, as well as several chapels. In the monastery, there is a library, ethnographic, and architectural and church museums, open for visitors. About 540 species of plants and mushrooms are registered in the forest and botanical garden around the monastery.
The camera installed on the water tower shows us the entire coast of the resort, as well as the entrance to the gulf between Punat and the Prniba peninsula, famous for its olive groves. According to some sources, the name of the village is derived from this passage to the bay. In Latin, the word “Pons” is translated as “a bridge,” and in ancient times, Punat and Prniba were connected by a bridge built by the Roman Empire.
In addition to the chic beaches, one of which is Punta De Bilj, with its honorary blue flag, Punat is famous for its architecture. There are several ancient churches with a thousand-year history.
