Lourdes. The Massabielle Grotto

Could you ever think that Lourdes, this small town with population of about 14 thousand, is one of the most visited places in France? After Paris and Niece, of course. It is reported that about 5 million tourists visit this town every year.

People, mostly very sick and old, come to the beautiful Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes accompanied by relatives or volunteers, while the spring water from the grotto is believed to be healing.

This webcam shows us the Basilica of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, also known as the Upper Church within the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes. It was built on the rock above the Grotto in the end of the 19th century.
