Meudon. View of Paris

The camera is installed in the tower of Tour solaire de Meudon, which is part of Observatoire de Paris in Meudon commune. The tower consists of several “layers” – the outer protects the equipment from the wind and the inner contains a telescope. Opened in the 60s, Tour solaire de Meudon is currently used mostly as an educational institution, ever since new technology rendered the tower’s telescope obsolete.

For its time, as well as for the present day, the tower looks futuristic; its telescope looks like a space dish, which is mounted on a round white tower.

The domes of the observatory (which you can see in the center of the image) have been standing there for more than one hundred years. Observatoire de Paris is the oldest functioning observatory, and it was opened in 1667.

The town of Meudon is known for several famous inhabitants, including such stars as Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis.
