Bad Reichenhall. Panorama of the City from Mount Predigtstuhl
We are heading to the German border town of Bad Reichenhall. As you might guess by seeing high mountains, the town borders Austria with its grandiose Alpine peaks. We are halfway to the top of Predigtstuhl. The panoramic camera shows the town at the foot of this mountain and the Predigtstuhlbahn cableway.
Predigtstuhlbahn, built in 1928, is the oldest operating lift in the world. Tourists should not worry about safety because all systems are regularly checked and repaired if necessary. Due to the strength of the original ropes, they last several decades before they are replaced with new ones.
The initiative to build this ropeway belonged to a local businessman, who decided to return the title of a popular resort to Bad Reichenhall. The height difference between the lift stations is 1,140 meters, and the distance the retro cabs cover in eight minutes is 2.38 kilometers.
Built in the Reichenhaller Valley, on the banks of the Saalach River, one should pay attention to Bad Reichenhall, as this town, with its medieval architecture, is very interesting to visit.
