Bad Reichenhall. View of Salzburg from Hochstaufen

We can see the Austrian-German border and the famous city of Salzburg in the background. The camera is installed on Hochstaufen Mountain, in Reichenhaller Haus am Hochstaufen. The hut was built at an altitude of 1750 meters above sea level and is open from early May to mid-October. You should book a place in advance.

Hochstaufen is the easternmost mountain in the Bavarian Alps, and its title is fully consistent with its appearance. It is translated as “steep towering rock.” Until the middle of the eighteenth century, lead and zinc were mined on the mountain. There are more than 10 hiking trails laid on the mountain.

At the foot of the mountain, we can see the German community of Piding, behind which are suburbs of Salzburg, Austria, such as Kaferheim, Wals and others. On a clear day you can see the lake Auschneidersee between these areas.
