Biberach an der Riss. Nest in the Tower of St. Martin's Church

The camera in the very center of the ancient German city of Biberach-on-Rice was installed by the German Association of Nature Protection, NABU. The association was founded at the end of the 19th century and was first called the Birds Protection Federation. The organization includes nearly half a million people who sponsor various NABU projects.

Since 1971, NABU has annually appointed the “bird of the year” and draws attention to the threat of its extinction due to bad habitat. One of the most significant projects of the organization is “the hour of garden birds.” Observers throughout Germany monitor the behavior of the birds in the nearby nest and record the results on the project website.

The birds are also watched in the nest of the tower at St. Martin’s Church, which we can see on the screen. This church is located on the Market Square, Biberach an der Riß. The church was built in the 14th century, but the first Romanesque church was constructed on this place in 1100. During its centuries-old history, the church has experienced several major reconstructions, in its architecture you can find a variety of styles, from baroque to gothic.
