Bredstedt. Market Square

The small town of Bredstedt in the north of Germany, despite its modest size, has a very rich history. As it is located almost on the Denmark border, it is not surprising that you can meet the first mention of Bredstedt in the Danish documents of the beginning of the XIII century.

And the interesting thing about Bredstedt is its quite peculiar German, the so-called Frisian language, which is spoken there. This dialect was formed due to the town’s neighborliness with the Scandinavian countries.

The crowds of tourists that can be seen in the majority of large German cities rarely appear here. That is why, being in Bredstedt on a holiday on the Market Square, you can see how native Germans rest. During the holidays, the area is blocked from traffic, and a fair with the local food and drinks is organized on it.
