Hohenpeißenberg. Sender Hohenpeißenberg TV Tower
The concrete tower, Sender Hohenpeißenberg, was built in 1978 and has a height of 158.76 meters. The transmitters on the tower are used by cellular companies, FM radio and TV.
We are looking at the tower from the terrace of the mountain restaurant, Bayerischer Rigi. Mount Hohenpeißenberg has a height of 988 meters above sea level, which is why not only conquerors of alpine peaks but also ordinary travelers are among the tourists. Several hiking trails have been laid on the slopes of the mountains.
Till the 80s of the last century, the top of Hohenpeißenberg served as a launching pad for hang gliding but, due to security reasons, flying is forbidden here now.
On the mountain, in addition to the restaurant, is a meteorological observatory and the pilgrimage church of the Assumption Hohenpeißenberg. The temple of the seventeenth century perfectly preserved to this day. At the beginning of the twenty-first century, the extensive reconstruction was carried out over a large area of the church complex and, in 2016, the church got a new pipe organ with twenty registers.
