Lübeck. Old City

Since 1987, the medieval old city of Lübeck has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site. For tourists who are looking for architectural attractions in their travels, Lübeck is an ideal holiday destination. This camera alone shows several ancient buildings in the center of the city, in fact, the whole Old Island has medieval buildings.

In the left part of the screen, on the opposite bank of the river Trave, we can see the towers of the church of St. Mary, the most famous in the city. Lübeck Marienkirche had been built for 100 years, at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. If it seems to you that you have seen similar churches, you are right; it was the church of St. Mary that served as a prototype for 70 churches in the Baltic region.

Another church that we see in this picture is the church of St. Peter. The first mention of it was found in the documents of 1170. Throughout the centuries, the church has been repeatedly reconstructed and expanded. After the serious destruction of the Second World War, the church had been undergoing restoration for several decades and, finally, in 1987, all the restoration work was completed.

The city of Lübeck is very compact, almost any building here performs an important function. It’s hard to believe, but even the former boat hangar, in the foreground of the image, is now used as a concert venue and conference room.
