Lüneburg. Panorama of the City. Church of St. Johan

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Johan is the oldest church in the German town of Lüneburg. We are looking at it from the southern part of the town. Like many European churches, the church of St. Johan has existed for several centuries, since the twelfth century.

The church is located at Am Sande Square, which is surrounded by medieval houses. Each of them has its own history. For example, the house at 1 Am Sande was built in the middle of the sixteenth century and had been a brewery until 1898. Now it is the Chamber of Commerce, Lüneburg-Wolfsburg.

The Water Tower rises above the city and is situated next to St. Johan’s Church. It was built between 1905 and 1907. Now it is the main observation deck of Lüneburg.
