Tilleda. Kyffhäuserdenkmal Monument

The quiet town of Tilleda, in the heart of Germany, is almost unremarkable; there are a couple of old churches, and the local population is engaged in agriculture. Usually, if we look from such a quiet place at the nearby mountains in Europe, we can see medieval castles and fortresses. So, when we cast the first glance at the screen, it seems that there is an ancient building on Mount Kyffhäuser. But it is not so, we can see Kyffhäuserdenkmal, the monument dedicated to William I.

Under the main tower, which is visible in the upper part of the screen, there is a statue of the German Emperor, who had been ruling these lands for over fifteen years in the late nineteenth century.

The monument is one of the most magnificent buildings of its kind, of the last century. The height of the main tower is 80 meters and the statue is 6.5 meters high.

Kyffhäuserdenkmal was built in the 1890s, when various monuments, dedicated to the German Emperor who died in 1888, were built all over the country.
