This unique city was built in the province of Salerno, on the rocky shore of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Its houses cascade on the slopes of huge mountains and the streets are laid out on steep serpentines and tunnels. The camera shows probably the main attractions of Atrani, the city beach and the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Maddalena Penitente.

The church, the tower and dome, which rise above the coast, were built on the ruins of an ancient fortress at the end of the thirteenth century. Throughout its history, it has repeatedly been restored and changed, because the location was not very good and they needed to increase the parish for the growing population of Atrani in the Middle Ages.

The bell tower, which you can see at the upper part of the screen, is a replica of the famous Neapolitan Basilica of Madonna del Carmine.

There are no modern buildings on the coast of Atrani and all the roads are laid through the ancient streets, so the city is considered to be the model of the balanced development of tourism.
