Auronzo di Cadore. The Santa Caterina Lake

Quiet and peaceful municipality of Auronzo di Cadore attracts people with beautiful local views and interesting touristic sites. One of the major attractions is situated in its northern part and is called Diga di Santa Caterina (Dike of Saint Catherine). Construction works took 2 years, and it was opened in 1932. The dike reaches 55 meters at the point of the maximum height.

The beautiful name of this dike comes from the Catholic church Chiesa Santa Caterina, which is located nearby.

Actually, the nearby Santa Caterina Lake is artificial. It is created by the dammed river Ansiei. Still, this fact does not make it less attractive for admirers of natural beauty. Especially when in close proximity to it can be found famous mountains of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo and another charming lake — the Lake Misurina.

The town of Auronzo di Cadore itself is located about 120 kilometres from famous Venice and can be at any time reached by car.
