Baveno. Church of Saints Gervasio and Protasio
We are going to the western bay of Lake Maggiore, to the town of Baveno. The camera is installed in front of the main architectural heritage of the community — the church of Saints Gervasio and Protasio. On the screen, you can see almost all the buildings of the church, as well as its garden. Its high bell tower, with a clock, is visible from almost anywhere in Baveno, so it can be used as a landmark during a walk through town.
The church was built in the 11th century, and its consecration took place in 1345. Only some parts of the original structure have survived until now because the appearance of the church underwent significant changes during the reconstruction in the 17th˗18th centuries. Now, the building has features relating to the Romance style. Its distinctive feature is stone tiles. The main relic in the church is the ancient fresco of St. Christopher.
During a walk through Boveno, you will surely find other architectural masterpieces, among which you should pay special attention to the Baptistery, the 19th century villas, Della Casa, Mussi, and others, as well as the GraNum Cultural Heritage Museum located in the building next to the church of Saints Gervasio and Protasio.
If you like this view of the lake and the church, then you can stay at Al Campanile-Aparthotel & Suite for 100 euros per night (the price of a double room).
